Known as “The Father of the Green Revolution in India”, Professor Swaminathan was a leader in agricultural research, both in India and globally, was President of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs and was UNESCO-Cousteau Professor in Ecotechnology for Asia. He was nominated to the Indian Upper House, the Rajya Sabha, in 2007. Time magazine placed him as one of the 20 most influential Asians of the 20th century. He has received many awards, including from UNESCO.
