Professor Ibrahim Özdemir
Dr. Ibrahim Özdemir is a Professor of Philosophy at Uskudar University in Istanbul, where he is also Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He was also Founding President of Hasan Kalyoncu University in Gaziantep from 2010 to 2014 and is a visiting scholar at Clark University, in the US.
He helped draft the Islamic Declaration on Global Climate Change in 2015 and contributed to 'Environment, Religion, and Culture in the Context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development' (United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) 2016). Most recently, he has been a core member of the draft team for the groundbreaking 'al-Mizan: A Covenant for the Earth', launched by UNEP in 2024.
Dr. Özdemir's research interests include normative ethics, value theory, environmental ethics, interfaith dialogue and Islamic philosophy and he has translated numerous philosophical texts into Turkish.
Dr. Özdemir has several acclaimed books to his name, including Care for Creation: An Islamic Perspective (2022) and Rumî and Confucius on the Meaning of Life (2020).
