Waitrose has a strong track record on farm animal welfare and it continues to make excellent advances. Close runner-up for Compassionate Supermarket of the Year 2007 and winner twice before, Waitrose scored as highly as M&S on commitment to animal welfare and the welfare of farmed fish. It beat all other participating supermarkets on auditing; pigs; turkeys, ducks and geese and transport and slaughter.
Through our survey, Waitrose has committed to ensuring all own label products containing egg are cage-free from 2009.
