Morrisons is developing its standards and is starting to take its customers’ concerns about animal welfare seriously. Morrisons did not participate in the survey last time, so simply by participating in the 2007 survey, it has demonstrated that it wants to share information and improvements on farm animal welfare standards with us and with its customers.
One big drawback for Morrisons is that its farm animal welfare policies do not always extend to the animals in its supply chain outside of the UK. It is, however, one of the big four UK supermarkets to move on eggs, committing to go cage-free on all own label shell eggs by 2010 and already free-range in its ‘The Best’ premium range – great news for farm animals.
