Trolley Power: How YOU can help farm animals

Bacon, eggs, milk: as we run through our weekly shopping lists few of us realize just how much power we hold in our shopping trolleys; the power to determine whether farm animals are bred to endure great suffering, or bred with compassion.

Hand-reared pigletWhether we choose free range eggs, or factory farmed bacon our choice speaks volumes but rarely do we realize just how much difference it can make.

Our supermarket choices can have a real impact on how farm animals are kept. Sainsbury’s is now phasing out eggs from caged hens because of consumer pressure. Trolley power is starting to improve things for farm animals but we can do so much more.

"Those of us who eat meat have a huge responsibility when it comes to looking after the animals that provide it. That means ensuring they live as naturally as they were designed, something we can all encourage by our shopping choices."
