CIWF is working in the EU and worldwide to help end the suffering of millions of farm animals transported over long distances for slaughter or further fattening, every year
CIWF has exposed the cruelty suffered during these journeys on many occasions.
You can see for yourself by watching these videos filmed by our investigations team. |

The main problems with live animal transport over long distances:
- Overcrowding
Animals are crammed into vehicles, where they often get trapped, injured or trampled to death by their companions
|
|
- Stress, dehydration and exhaustion
Animals can be in transit for hours or days on end, sometimes without sufficient water or rest , even in severe heat. They can become exhausted from the sheer stress of the journey, and some don’t make it as a result.

|
- Animals are sentient beings
That means they are living creatures who can feel pain and suffer just like humans.

|
And that’s not all – transporting live animals can also spread disease and damage the environment.
CIWF wants the shortest possible journeys in the best possible conditions for animals going to slaughter and further fattening – any journey exceeding eight hours in total is too long and should be replaced by a trade in meat.
