International Photography Competition:

FOCUS ON FARM ANIMALS

Invitation to keen photographers: Can you focus on farm animals' feelings?

Compassion in World Farming invites you to send us your best images of farm animals. There are five entry categories.

The overall winning image will be published as a full page in our magazine Farm Animal Voice and the winning images from each category will also be published in the magazine. All runner-up images will be featured on our website and in our other publications.

In today's industrial farming, millions of farm animals are confined by cages or crates and are often kept permanently indoors. Many animals are not even allowed the space to turn around.

In these systems there is little or no opportunity to carry out the natural behaviours which are so important for these sentient beings. But in the right circumstances, such as good free-range or organic farms, farm animals can have a better life, feeling contentment and perhaps even joy.

The images can be of animals in different systems: either large-scale or small-scale, outdoor or indoor systems BUT PLEASE SEE IMPORTANT NOTES BELOW:

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • The subjects of your photographs must not have been placed by you in a position where they are at any risk of abuse, exploitation or any other harm, and must not be subjected to pain, distress or fear.
  • You must not enter any farm illegally or place yourself or others at any risk.
  • You must comply with animal disease regulations and with health and safety regulations and other relevant legislation in your country or region.

Entry categories

There are five categories for the competition:

  1. Age 7 years and below
  2. Age 8-11 years
  3. Age 12-17 years
  4. Adult (18+)
  5. Professional photographer

There will be one overall winner, and for each category there will be one winner and two runners-up.
